Hoa hậu Singapore 2009 Ris Low (ảnh) đã từ bỏ vương miện hoa hậu sau nhiều ngày bị kết án gian lận thẻ tín dụng trong thời gian trước đó (cáo trạng buộc tội hoa hậu đã trộm cắp thông tin 7 thẻ tín dụng để mua đồ lót trị giá 5.662 USD).

Ngoài ra, theo đơn vị tổ chức cuộc thi sắc đẹp của Singapore - Công ty Marketing ERM - Ris Low sẽ không đại diện Singapore dự thi cuộc thi Hoa hậu Thế giới 2009 ở Nam Phi nữa. Cha mẹ của Ris Low cũng đã đồng ý để con gái họ từ bỏ vương miện.

Báo The Strais Times cho biết đây là lần đầu xảy ra một trường hợp như vậy trong lịch sử các cuộc thi sắc đẹp ở Singapore. Trước đó, Ris Low đã tuyên bố: “Tôi sẽ không từ bỏ vương miện và ước mơ của mình”.
